Not sure how to choose a move out cleaner when there are literally hundreds of different choices? Here’s our biggest money-saving tips to help you so you don’t overpay for a move out clean out of desperation.
Book Early
As mentioned in a guest blog post we did on the Liv Edmonton Real Estate Blog, you want to book your Move Out cleaning service as far in advance as possible.
Not only is this for your peace of mind, it’s also good for your wallet.
Numerous “mom-and-pop” cleaning operations (and even some reputable cleaning companies) raise their prices of their Move Out services towards the end of the month. They know that the closer to the end of the month you call, the more desperate you’ll be to book. They also know that you need their services because you probably have an inspection before moving out and one of the conditions of moving out is getting the place professionally cleaned.
So if you call just 4 or 5 days in advance, they know you’ll be absolutely desperate because most of the cleaning companies will be booked up for the end of the month. This can sometimes make the price of your Move Out clean triple what it would’ve been if you booked a month in advance.
Be wary of house cleaning services that charge a premium for a Move Out clean.
Instead of charging say, $30 per hour like they normally do for a regular clean, they’ll charge you $50 per hour just because it’s a Move Out clean. Why should it make a difference if the clean is a regular one or a Move Out? A cleaning is a cleaning. In fact it should be easier since there’s no furniture in the way! Sure it takes longer for a Move Out clean because it’s a little more detailed but then they should be charging you for more time, not more $ per hour.
For example, at Scrubbi we charge a flat rate for cleaning – so whether it’s the first week of the month or a Move Out clean at the end of the month, you’ll be paying the same price. The difference in the Move Out clean is that it’s more detailed so things like the fridge interior are added on top of the regular clean, making it more expensive. If you don’t want all those extras added then it’s the exact same price as a regular clean.
So when is the best time to book a house cleaning service for a Move Out clean?
We recommend at least a month in advance to ensure that you get the best price and that you get the date and time that you want.
