The best news? You likely already have all the ingredients you need, so no extra shopping trip required. Extra eco-tip: Start saving your old product spray bottles and once they’re empty, fill ‘em back up with these homemade recipes.

All Natural All Purpose Cleaner

½ cup white vinegar
2 cups water
20-30 drops of your favourite essential oil

Great for a spot clean or all-over wipe-down. Just pop all the ingredients into a spray bottle and swirl to mix well.

 

Streak-Free Floor Cleaner

½ cup white vinegar
½ cup water
½ cup rubbing alcohol

The Incredible Floor cleaner: Safe for pets, safe for kids, and an absolute dream for cleaning hardwood floors without streaks.

Add ingredients to a spray bottle, swirl to mix. Spray directly onto your floors as you mop!

 The Bathroom Buster

2 cups water
2 tbsp baking soda
½ cup lemon juice
¼ cup liquid dish soap

If you’ve ever frantically Googled “can toilet bowl cleaner kill a dog?”, this recipe is for you. It’s totally dog- and kid-safe.

Funnel all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake well to mix. For tougher dirt or grime rings, spray heavily and let it sit for a few minutes. Then go at it with a scratch-free scrubber and rinse clean!

 

Super Stainless Steel Cleaners

Dish soap
Baby oil or mineral oil

First, wipe the stainless steel surface with a soft cloth dampened with a small amount of your favourite eco-friendly dish soap and water. Let the surface dry. Then drop a small amount of baby oil or mineral oil on a clean, dry soft cloth and wipe with the grain of the stainless steel.

Or

Olive oil
White vinegar

Put a small amount of olive oil on a cloth and wipe down your stainless steel surface. Follow that up with another soft cloth dampened with vinegar.

 

Ketchup Pot-And-Pan Cleaner

All you need is … ketchup!

Ketchup cleaning hacks exist? Yep, they do! Apply a layer of ketchup to the dark, burnt-on spots tarnishing your brass and stainless steel pots and pans. Let it sit for 30 minutes, scrub with a little elbow grease and BAM! An eco-friendly cleaning solution to save your cookware!

 

Simple Stovetop Degreaser

2 cups warm water
1 tbsp baking soda
20 drops of lemon juice or lemon essential oil

Welcome to the only electric and gas stove cleaner you’ll ever use again, we’re pretty sure. Mix water and baking soda in a spray bottle, and then add those lemon drops. Use a damp paper towel to wipe the grease from your stove top and range hood.

 

Streak-Free Glass Cleaner

½ cup water
½ cup white vinegar

Swirl ingredients in a spray bottle and have at it! If you still get newsprint flyers in your mailbox, use those to wipe down mirrors and glass or use a microfibre cloth for best results.
Pro tip: Wondering how to keep glass showers doors clean? Keep a squeegee and a spray bottle of this homemade glass cleaner in or by your shower and give your door glass a quick wipe-down after each shower.

 

DIY Air Freshener

1 cup water
2 tbsp rubbing alcohol
20-30 drops of your favourite essential oil

Not a fan of the vinegar scent in some of the recipes above? Never fear. Essential oils are here. Combine ingredients into a spray bottle and shake well before each use to help release the essential oil fragrance. Then, just spritz and enjoy.
